When there is not enough \u2014 whether in width or in height \u2014 the <strong>bone volume needed can be rebuilt<\/strong> with a graft, a key step towards long-term success.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Situation 1: the bone is not thick enough<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the bone is too thin, more has to be added <strong>on top<\/strong>. A small block of bone is taken from another area of your mouth (behind the lower molars or from the chin, where there is plenty) and moved to where it is needed.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>6 months of healing<\/strong> are needed before the next stage: patience is required.<\/li><li>Then the <strong>implant is placed<\/strong>.<\/li><li>And finally, <strong>4 to 5 months later<\/strong>, the permanent crown is fitted.<\/li><\/ul><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Patience pays off: a successful bone graft means an implant solution you can rely on for the very long term.<\/p><\/blockquote><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Situation 2: the bone has shrunk after an extraction<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the upper jaw, after an old extraction, the bone may have collapsed, leaving too little height to anchor an implant.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site is prepared by adding <strong>synthetic bone of bovine origin<\/strong>, placed from the side.
