Good preparation, both before and after, helps you heal quickly and stay comfortable while you recover.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the procedure<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few simple precautions to follow in the days before you come to the practice:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Do not take aspirin<\/strong> (acetylsalicylic acid) in the week before the extraction, nor in the week after.<\/li><li>Avoid smoking if at all possible <strong>from the day before<\/strong> the procedure.<\/li><li><strong>Eat before you come<\/strong>: you must NOT arrive on an empty stomach.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the procedure works<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The procedure usually takes between <strong>30 minutes and 1 hour<\/strong>. It is painless: you will mainly feel pressure and vibration, and you may hear the strange noises or cracking sounds that go with this kind of procedure.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the procedure<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Have ice ready<\/strong> for the following 48 hours (you can bring your own ice packs to the practice).<\/li><li><strong>Do not drive<\/strong> straight after the procedure.<\/li><li>Stick to <strong>semi-liquid food<\/strong> for 2 to 3 days: minced meat, porridge, pur\u00e9es, fruit juice, stewed fruit, custards, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Take the medication<\/strong> you have been prescribed properly, to avoid any complications.<\/li><li><strong>Avoid any exertion<\/strong> on the day of the procedure.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Swelling or bruising may occur: plan for a lighter schedule for at least the following 3 days.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Typical prescription<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your dentist will give you a personalised prescription. Here are the medicines usually prescribed around the procedure.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To start on the morning of the procedure<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Amoxicillin 500 mg<\/strong> \u2014 2 capsules morning and evening, for 6 days.<\/li><li><strong>Solupred 20 mg<\/strong> (prednisolone) \u2014 4 tablets dissolved in a glass of water, once a day in the morning, for 4 days.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To start 1 hour before the procedure<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Paracetamol 1000 mg<\/strong> \u2014 1 tablet every 6 hours for 48 hours, then only if you are in pain. Do not exceed 4 tablets a day.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To start after the procedure<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Eludril<\/strong> (mouthwash) \u2014 15 mL diluted in the measuring cup, 3 times a day after brushing, for 1 minute, without rinsing afterwards. Start 48 hours after the procedure and continue for 7 days.
