{"id":978,"date":"2026-06-29T21:51:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T19:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oracleblog.mediweb.link\/conseils\/root-treatment-and-crown-why-and-how\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T15:00:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:00:05","slug":"root-treatment-crown","status":"publish","type":"conseil","link":"https:\/\/oracleblog.mediweb.link\/en\/advice\/root-treatment-crown\/","title":{"rendered":"Root treatment and crown: why and how?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It starts with a weakened tooth:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>either from <strong>decay<\/strong>,<\/li><li>or from a <strong>fracture<\/strong>,<\/li><li>or from an <strong>old amalgam filling<\/strong> with decay around it.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simply filling it again risks the tooth breaking. It has to be rebuilt <strong>properly<\/strong>!<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Root treatment<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First the tooth is gently numbed, then the root canal or canals are cleaned and filled.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This paste, which shows up white on X-rays, is placed in a single visit with modern techniques. With the older methods it took 2 or 3 appointments with temporary dressings in between.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rebuilding the tooth and the crown<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next we rebuild the tooth so that it can support a crown, which will <strong>protect<\/strong> the whole thing.<\/p><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>And there you have it: a crown, usually matched to the colour of your teeth, restores both of the tooth&#8217;s roles \u2014 strong enough to eat with and good to smile with!<\/p><\/blockquote><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How long does a crowned tooth last?<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It <strong>varies<\/strong> enormously: it may last a lifetime \u2014 or a few months, or a few years. The crown itself is very strong and unbreakable, but the weak link is the root underneath.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It depends on the stage at which the tooth was crowned: if it was very fragile, with thin walls and slender roots, it may crack or break underneath and cause an abscess.
