Once it is gone, a solid support has to be found for a replacement. There are three ways of making up for the missing root, each with its own indications.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The implant, or artificial root<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An implant replaces the natural root with an <strong>artificial titanium root<\/strong> anchored in the bone. The final crown is fixed onto this artificial root.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Advantages:<\/strong> it leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched, maintains bone volume and prevents the neighbouring teeth from loosening.<\/li><li><strong>Drawbacks:<\/strong> the neighbouring teeth must not have drifted, and there must be enough bone, of good quality.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The bridge: a span between two teeth<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A bridge uses the teeth on either side of the gap to create a <strong>block of three crowns<\/strong>. The middle one, like a bridge span, is attached to the other two, which act as abutments.
