Why brush your teeth?

  • To remove bacteria and prevent tartar from forming, and so to fight off decay and gum disease.
  • You keep fresh breath and a bright smile!

What kind of toothbrush?

  • Very soft bristles, so as not to damage the enamel or irritate the gums.
  • As many bristles as possible, to remove dental plaque.
  • A small head, to reach everywhere, especially right at the back behind the molars.
  • We recommend the Curaprox, Inava and Gum brands.
  • Change it every 3 months, once a season!
  • Can be complemented with a tongue scraper (for fresh breath), floss and/or interdental brushes.

What kind of toothpaste or mouthwash?

  • A fluoride toothpaste, suited to your age.
  • For protection against decay: Elmex Caries Protection or Elgydium Caries Protection toothpaste.
  • For sensitive teeth: Elmex Sensitive toothpaste.
  • For everyday comfort, as a daily mouthwash: Listerine Zero.

How can you improve your daily brushing?

  1. Brush twice a day for at least 2 minutes, ideally 20 minutes after eating or drinking. Always brush the upper and lower arches separately.
  2. Hold the handle of the toothbrush like a pen and keep it horizontal, so that you brush without pressing too hard.
  3. Start by brushing the top surfaces of the teeth with a back-and-forth movement.
  4. Place the brush head half on the gum and half on the teeth, tilt the brush to 45° with the bristles towards the gum, and make small, slow rotating movements, 3 times per tooth. Work arch by arch, going over the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth.
  5. Behind the incisors, hold the brush vertically and carry on with small, slow rotating movements.
  6. Then make a rolling movement from the gum towards the tooth, to clean the space between the teeth thoroughly, 4 to 5 times per tooth.

Thorough brushing twice a day is the best protection there is against decay and gum disease.
