What is it for?
The back teeth (the molars and premolars) have grooves running across them.
These grooves vary in depth, and they tend to decay easily. They are like little “nooks” that toothbrush bristles cannot reach, where the bacteria that cause decay thrive.
As a preventive measure, to stop decay from developing in these grooves, we apply a white product (a special resin loaded with fluoride).
It does not hurt at all, and there is no need to numb the tooth. Several teeth can be done in the same session.
When should it be done?
- Ideally before the age of 14, but preferably as soon as the teeth come through if the child has fragile enamel (for example if they have already had decay in their baby teeth).
- At any age at which grooves “at risk” of decay are spotted.
The cost
- It is fully covered by the French health service for children under 14, on the molars.
- For other teeth, a quote will be drawn up beforehand according to what is needed, with full or partial reimbursement possible depending on your private health cover.
